Randomness

I am the queen of randomness and impulse. Wednesday evening I was speaking to my very dear friend Liz, and we were complaining about how it had been 3 long weeks since we had seen each other. Liz and I went to nursing school together, QUICKLY hit it off when we realized each others LOVE for wine and study time :) We spent many nights studying, with the very best intentions, but usually turned into a hangover the next morning. Andy, her husband, was a godsend who put up with our girly ways and sometimes joined in with a beer or two. Who knew that after wine and study time that 5 years have gone by and Andy and Liz are some of Mike and Is best friends?!?! The four of us have been through a lot, including vacations, weddings, and now babies. Their son Walker is Mike and Is Godson, and he is full of life! Anyways, back to my original story....While on the phone with Liz I knew in the back of my mind that it wouldn't be for at least another 3 weeks that I would see her again due to our busy schedule. So on impulse I said I would drive to Lynchburg Thursday morning, spend the day with her and Walker then return home Friday morning. Liz was super excited, although, I sensed a feeling of disbelief, and she wouldn't believe it until I showed up at her doorstep.

The Perfect Ending to Ash Wednesday-G-Pa time

Sure enough, I awoke at the weary hour of 530am, fed Lily, washed up, packed the car and after my detour to McDonald's for a free coffee, I was on the road by 715. Not only did I make great time, Lily was a doll the whole ride. Upon arriving, I quickly showered, fed Lily, and we rushed out the door for Walkers KINDERMUSIK class. I was unaware of kindermusik, but I was so happy to have come across it, because I have now signed up Lily and I to do it together here in Ashburn. I really think it is great stimulation for the babies, and a great way for me to meet new mommies!

Thank goodness for a beautiful day because we took the most fabulous walk through the historic streets of their Lynchburg neighborhood. Lily was a bit fussy throughout the day and I am chalking it up to growing pains...hehe or just that she was out of her element. Walker, at 10 mos didn't have too much interest in Lily although Liz and I hope they will be little play buddies soon! What kind of day would it be for Liz and I if we didn't end our day with a bottle of red wine and silliness, so while making dinner and feeding the babies we danced around the kitchen and sang along to some tunes. Turns out Mike missed us A LOT, and he frequently called me throughout the day to check on me and the baby. I must say it was cute, and I am excited to see him when he gets home from work tonight. All in all, the day was excellent and I was very happy to have the visit with Liz, and I am also very thankful for a husband who welcomed the idea of me leaving on such short notice!!

MARDI GRAS

FAT TUESDAY...A day I would have thoroughly enjoyed in my college years. It would have probably consisted of a day of drinking or at least a night at Rileys (the local Radford Bar). In fact, with when college spring breaks fall, Mardi Gras may have been spent in true form when I was on the beaches of Jamacia or a martini bar in Tampa.

These pictures are called to mind. It is only those who knew me in years who would appreciate such debacle. Some mighty fine times I might add!

This year, as a new Mom, I indulged in food and red meat and actually prepared myself for the upcoming Lenten Season. At this point in my life I have gained appreciation for the faith I have and really took things to heart. Instead of the bar, Mike and I went to Red Robin for dinner. It was the never ending basket of steak fries, the huge burger and delicious milk shake that really got us 'wasted' this year ;)

I also spent the day with much anticipation of Lily's pediatrician appointment. She was to have her first round of vaccines..ouwie! Although I KNOW Lily will not remember this day, even if her life depended on it, I still found myself being 'that Mom' who was anxious for her poor baby to be hurt :( I wanted to make sure she felt the least amount of pain and I was given a few hints. After three small stabs in her two chunky legs, and a cry that I had never heard before, I immediately fed her and held her close to calm her tears. IT WORKED! And thank goodness she didn't get a fever and she wasn't even fussy the rest of the night! I still had my happy little baby and my worries were gone.

Lucky Gal

The beginning of our weekend started Friday evening when Alicia and Andy (my brother and sister-in-law) traveled from Charlottesville to reveal the sex of their expected baby. It was very suspecting of a boy considering they didn't want to spoil the news over the phone and wanted to tell everyone in person. Sure enough, over pizza and some beers, the Peterson family found out it will be Connor Alexander we will soon meet in June. The first boy! After two beautiful grand daughters the Petersons are very excited!! Here Savannah and Lily sit, side by side, wondering about each others presence. Some day it will be exciting to see their actual interaction.

Pink Girly Cousins
Saturday morning, I was challenged to get out of the door on time when Mike unexpectedly had to go into work, and I had to get the baby ready for the day, finish wrapping gifts and finish preparing for the church bake sale. Thank goodness for Alicia who was able to pick the baby up for me as I rushed out the door. Amanda, Kara and I were on our way to Richmond for our good friend, roommate and sorority sister, Ashley's bridal shower. There we enjoyed GREAT company and had many laughs as we reminisced about our college days. As planned, all the girls were staying in Richmond for a 'sleepover' although I was to head back to my family in NOVA. With much encouragement and positive peer pressure the girls urged me to stay to carry on our good laughs and fun. I had said ahead of time that I wasn't ready to leave little Lily for a full night yet, but Mike had insisted I stay. Of course, I knew I was leaving Lily in perfect hands and what better night to be away when I was in the good company of my closest girlfriends. Although still hesitant I decided to stay knowing I would need to get it over with soon, leaving my little girl at home. My night was awesome and I couldn't have spent my first night away from Lily with a better crowd.

I returned Sunday morning, with MUCH anticipation to see Lily and Mikey. As if it were no trouble at all without me, Mike greeted me with a huge kiss. He shows such confidence and calmness that inspires me. Everyday he proves to be best father and husband he can be. I wonder what other husband would so willingly, at the last minute, stay with a 2month old by himself. I know I am lucky gal and I also know that Lily will someday realize the same things about her father.

It's official, I have joined the blog world. With much appeal to my friends blog I decided it was time to be a part of bragging and showing off my beautiful family, among other side notes of my life. In the past my hesitation to join was for reasons like, 'Do I need to put my personal life on display?' 'What on earth do I put in my posts?' 'Will my page be as cute and put together as others out there?' I was simply intimidated by the blog world and didn't know if I could fit in. Well here it is, the start of something I will probably soon be obssessed with and also the consumption of my free time while the baby is napping.

Baby you say? Why yes, Mike and I have had a busy couple of years. I have chosen these four photos to sum it up....

Our Family Grows...Baby Lily born December 26, 2008

In the past two months I have blossemed into the Mother land and I couldn't be happier. Having a child has changed my life dramatically, and I am still in awe of the creature that Mike and I have made. We are so blessed to be parents of a healthy, happy and beautiful little girl. It is incredible how fast your heart grows and fills with double the love for this tiny being.

My next task to tackle is adding videos. The best part of a growing baby are the drastic changes that are seen day in and day out. Each new day brings a new coo, a new look, more movements and a bigger smile. It will be fun to share these milestones!
